Trump’s new AI moves

President Trump has taken bold steps in reshaping US AI policy. He rescinded Biden's 2023 executive order on AI safety, which was designed to reduce the risks of AI development, and included provisions on AI safety in healthcare Instead, Trump signed new executive orders focusing on bolstering US global AI dominance, emphasizing "innovation free from ideological bias" and calling for an AI action plan within 180 days. In line with these initiatives, Trump’s team also announced Project Stargate, a $500B investment led by OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and UAE's MGX, aiming to construct vast AI infrastructure across the country. The details of which are still being finalized. By rescinding Biden’s AI safety measures, signing new executive orders, and unveiling Project Stargate, the Trump administration signals a decisive pivot towards making the US a global leader in AI innovation. Something more important than ever given the latest launch of DeepSeek, a Chinese open-source large language model rivaling OpenAI and others. (link)

a16z: It’s time to build healthtech infrastructure

In a new post by Andreessen Horowitz partner Julie Yoo, she argues why now is the time to build healthtech infrastructure. Healthtech infrastructure forms the essential foundation of the healthcare system, enabling everything from appointment booking to claims processing and interoperability. While many legacy systems power the industry today, they are often inefficient, outdated, or ill-equipped for emerging models like virtual care, value-based care, and novel payment mechanisms. This presents a significant opportunity for builders to either upgrade entrenched infrastructure or create entirely new systems in areas where none exist yet in this new era of AI.

Opportunities exist to tackle critical gaps in clinical data exchange, enable risk-sharing models for providers, build rails for virtual care networks, or support new payment frameworks like gene therapy reimbursements. While unseating legacy players is challenging, recent success stories (highlighted below) show that leveraging modern technology and regulatory tailwinds can enable startups to scale rapidly. For ambitious builders, the next healthtech infrastructure startup could redefine the industry—and potentially become one of the most impactful companies in the world. (link)(tweet)

Neko Health raises $260M

Neko Health, co-founded by Spotify’s Daniel Ek, raised $260M in Series B funding at a $1.8B valuation. Launched in 2023, the Stockholm-based startup expanded to London in 2024 and has completed over 10,000 scans, with a waitlist exceeding 100,000. Its preventive full-body scans, priced at £299, use cutting-edge technologies to detect chronic conditions early. Interestingly, 80% of customers prepay for annual follow-ups, treating Neko as a wellness tool. CEO Hjalmar Nilsonne likens the scan to an “iPod moment,” signaling the start of broader innovation in affordable, high-quality preventive diagnostics. Despite early traction, skeptics question its public health utility, costs, and potential false positives. With U.S. expansion and new capabilities planned, Neko aims to redefine preventive healthcare and this highlights the growing trend in using new AI tech to revolutionize how folks interact with the care system.
